Depart for a full-day wine tour in the Alsace vineyards. The Alsace Wine Route is more than 170 kilometers (106 miles) long and runs along the eastern foothills of the Vosges. On the way take in nature’s beauty as the route guides you through vine-covered hills and quaint villages.
First stop is Mittelbergheim a wine-producing region home to famous wines Zotzenberg Kastelberg and Wiebelsberg Grand Crus. Try different wines including Pinot Blanc Sylvaner and Riesling.
Continue on to another wine-producing region Dambach la Ville home to famous wine Grand Cru Frankstein. Riesling and Gewurztraminer are also particularly well-adapted to the area. Enjoy a second wine tasting session in a typical “caveau” a local winery. Free time for lunch.
Depart for the Ribeauvillé/Riquewihr wine-producing area that is surrounded by five Grand Crus appellations: Geisberg Kirchberg Osterberg Schoenenbourg and Sporen.
While Riesling is without a doubt the king of grapes in this area Pinot Gris Muscat and Gewürztraminer are also known to produce excellent wines on neighboring soils. Famous wine growers of this region include the Trimbach family which has been producing wines since 1626 and the Hugel family whose winemaking tradition began in 1639.
